Rules for a resignation letter

  • 1.Tell your manager first

    Say it in person or on a call, then send the letter the same day.

  • 2.Name your last day

    Give a date, not “two weeks from now”. Check your contract or handbook for the notice it asks for.

  • 3.Keep it short

    Say you are leaving, when, and thank them. A reason is optional, and for health you can leave out the details.

  • 4.Keep it neutral

    The letter stays in your file. Save complaints and feedback for the exit interview.
